National WWII Museum 25th Anniversary
The National WWII Museum in New Orleans is celebrating it’s 25th anniversary June 5-7, 2025 with curated programming that honors its ongoing commitment to preserving and sharing the stories of veterans.
With veteran numbers continuing to decline, the work of the museum is timely and more important than ever.
Since the Museum’s founding in 2000, official statistics now show that fewer than 0.5% (around 66,143 total) of the over 16 million who served are still with us.
One exhibit that is particularly compelling and a perfect example of the museum’s mission is to preserve veteran stories is Voices From the Front. The exhibit combines AI with prerecordings of veterans so that visitors can talk to those that served and shows how the museum is taking modern technologies to better preserve the stories of the greatest generation. Each veteran answered hundreds of questions to capture their stories so that when you and I go “talk” with them at the exhibit it is as authentic as possible.
As a major cultural instituion marking a milestone anniversary, the Museum offers a timely national news hook while its immersive exhibits, like Voices From the Front, make it a compelling travel destination.
Beyond the anniversary, some additional news from this year – the museum recently debuted two new exhibits:
- Fighting For the Right To Fight – explores and honors the millions of Black service members and Home Front workers who contributed to the Allied victory, even as they faced discrimination.
- On American Shores: The Aleutian Campaign – focuses on the often over-looked 1942 Japanese invasion of the Aleutian Islands in Alaska and U.S. efforts to reclaim them.
