A popular program granting elementary schoolers free access to national parks across the country returns this week.

The Every Kid Outdoors program renews for another year this week, providing fourth graders and their families with fee-free access to more than 2,000 federal recreation areas, including national parks, national monuments, and national forests. The pass can be acquired free-of-charge. It does not cover expanded amenity fees, like camping or boat rides.

To get their free pass, fourth grade students should visit the official Every Kid Outdoors website, participate in a short educational activity, and download a voucher. The voucher is valid for multiple uses between September 1, 2025 and August 31, 2026 to correspond to the traditional school year. The voucher may also be exchanged for a keepsake pass at participating federal lands.

Launched in 2015 as the Every Kid in a Park program, Every Kid Outdoors is administered by the U.S. Department of the Interior. It was authorized for an additional seven years in 2019 through the John D. Dingell Conservation, Management and Recreation Act.
