Laila’s Gift, a nonprofit that provides free birthday and milestone celebrations for children with disabilities, is going national! Starting this month, Laila’s Gift will be showing up to nominated families homes offering a Celebration in a Box experience to children with special needs.
Each Celebration in a Box is hand-delivered to the doorstep of the family for free, turning special milestones into unforgettable adventures for their child.
Packed inside these gigantic gift boxes are personalized gifts, colorful balloons, party favors, decorations, cake and more!
Each box also includes thoughtful resources to support family caregivers and siblings.
Shari Bailey, the Baltimore native and mother of 10-year-old twin daughters, one of whom has the rare congenital disorder, Jacobsen Syndrome, and is the inspiration for Laila’s Gift. Shari’s daughter, Laila, was diagnosed with Jacobsen Syndrome at birth. The rare congenital condition occurs in approximately 1 in 100,000 newborns. Roughly 20% to 25% of all infants with this disorder pass away before age two. For many children with special needs, each birthday is a milestone due to health complications and other adversities. This is why when Shari throws a party, it’s more than just balloons and cake—it’s a life-changing celebration because Laila was never promised a birthday. Now, through Laila’s Gift, she is dedicated to helping other families celebrate the milestones and victories of children with special needs.
