Heading to the great outdoors for a hike? Kids off to summer camp? This is peak tick season.

Tick-borne diseases on the rise, including Lyme Disease which affects more than 500,000 Americans annually. While there is no cure for Lyme, there are steps we can take to eliminate the risks of catching it.

Father-daughter duo Steve and Olivia Abrams who have seen firsthand the devastating effects of Lyme disease. Inspired by their own personal challenges with Lyme Disease, they developed the TiCK MiTT, a chemical-free microfiber material that mimics the adhesion properties that attract ticks, functioning much like Velcro.

The design ensures an effective and straightforward tick removal process by removing loose ticks on your clothes or pet before they embed into the skin. It’s safe for both humans and pets, lightweight, and can be used for any outdoor activity. It also won the 2024 Product of the Year at the recent Outdoor Retailer Summer spectacular.

Here are other tips and tricks recommended by the Abrams team for not getting ‘ticked off’ this summer including:

  1. Dress Smart – Wear light colored clothing to easily spot ticks.
  2. Use Repellant – Apply a safe tick repellant on exposed skin and clothing.
  3. Conduct Daily Checks – Check yourself after every outside adventure.
  4. Stay on Trails – Avoid tall grass and bush where ticks love to make a home.
