Alaska may be cold in winter, but throughout 2025 there are some memorable events to consider as you plan your travels:
2025 marks the centennial of the historic 1925 serum run, where mushers and dog teams traveled by relay 674 miles across Alaska to deliver life-saving diphtheria antitoxin to the community of Nome. The Nome Kennel Club and community partners are honoring this momentous anniversary with a weeklong celebration, Jan. 25-Feb. 2, that will include a ceremonial reenactment, potlucks, informational talks, a health fair and other activities.
Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve is marking 100 years in 2025 since President Calvin Coolidge established it as a national monument to protect its diverse ecosystems and cultural heritage.
The Alaska Folk Festival, Alaska’s largest folk music gathering held annually in Juneau, is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2025, showcasing the rich tradition of folk music. From April 7-13, the festival will host a week of performances, workshops, dances and jam sessions featuring over 450 musicians from Alaska and beyond.
The Homer Harbor Fest, Homer’s celebration of food, music and arts, returns on June 7, on the Homer Spit. This year’s event features national headliner Dirtwire.
The Aukeman Triathlon, Juneau’s premier triathlon, will be held on Aug. 3, offering sprint, Olympic and long distances for individuals or teams. Athletes will tackle courses that include swimming, biking and running on the land of the ÁakʼwḴwáan on Lingít Aaní.
