Loews Ventana Canyon Resort – very pooch friendly
By Eileen Ogintz
TUCSON, AZ — I’m wrapped up like a burrito getting “detoxified.”
At the Lakeside Spa at Loews Ventana Canyon Resort, I’m indulging in a Desert Herbal Cocoon Wrap—a tension relieving treatment designed to reduce stress, I learn. It starts with dry brushing that is supposed to improve circulation. Then my skin is massaged with sage and mountain arnica that soothes my muscles after three days of horseback riding at White Stallion Ranch.
Then I’m wrapped in hot linens steeped in an herbal infusion while my therapist massages my face, neck and scalp. I feel great afterwards—so does my husband after he indulges in a rare massage—and so does our 10-year-old pooch Jake, a 14-pound poodle mix, who was greeted at check in with a packet of treats and is lazing on the couch in our room. He even can join us at dinner as long as we eat on the patio. At the Flying V Bar & Grill, popular for its Southwestern menu (how about guacamole made tableside with roasted pineapple, followed by short rib tacos) or fresh scallops nearly 70 tequilas and specialty cocktails as well
The spectacular 398-room Loews Ventana Canyon Resort, located on 100 acres in the Sonoran Desert, offers quick access to the Ventana Trail and Sabino Canyon (hike—early morning in summer—to the 80-foot natural waterfall, spend all day at the spa, lounge at the pool, or play 36 holes of golf.

Loews promises “Welcoming You Like Family,” while its Good Neighbor Program supports the local community.
As for our pooch, as part of the resort’s brand-wide Loews Loves Pets, there is even room service menus for cats and dogs created by the resort’s executive chef, specialized bedding if needed, litter boxes, pooper scoopers, dog walking maps, even rawhide bones, catnip and scratch poles.
Pet sitting and walking can be arranged ($100 per stay for two pets per room.)
Thanks, Loews!
