On Day 6 of our Uniworld River Countess cruise in the lagoons around Venice Italy, we spent the day in Burano, a small island village famous for lace-making, which became popular in Venice in the 1500s. Burano lace was sought-after all over Europe then and now. Many fishermen live here. The island is known for its brightly colored buildings, supposedly painted in reds, blues, pink and yellow to help fishermen find their way home through the fog Burano also has plenty of inexpensive restaurants for pizza and pasta!
