The National Portrait Gallery will host its annual Día de los Muertos celebration Nov. 2.

The evening event will include art activities, music, and performances by local folk-dance company DC Folklórico in the museum’s Kogod Courtyard from 5 to 8 p.m. Visitors will be invited to place artworks, photographs and other offerings on the community altar as a tribute to their loved ones. Admission is free.

At 6:30 p.m., artists Mas Paz and Guache will present their live video artwork, “La Común Unidad: Caminando con los Ancestros,” highlighting the artists’ ancestral cultural heritage. Their vibrant digital paintings will be accompanied by music. The artists will also premiere new Instagram filters of Día de los Muertos masks the day of the festival. The custom filters can be accessed on Instagram at @smithsoniannpg. More information here.
