Eating breakfast at Mount Snow Family Camp

Eating breakfast at Mount Snow Family Camp

By Sheri McDonald, Taking the Kids correspondent

These days the only time families seem to sit down for a meal together is at a restaurant, and that’s just not what I consider quality family time. In our home we are often busy and not always eating our meals at the same time, but we have also just become complacent over time. It easy to grab a plate of food and sit in front of the television or keep working while we eat. On our trip to Mount Snow Family Camp we had a reminder of how valuable the family table is.

The central hub of family camp was the Sundance Base Lodge, which is where we had our meals. Large tables were pulled together with chairs all around them so that all of the families could sit together and enjoy the delicious meals that were provided for us. While we chose to sit together as a family each day, some of the children developed close bonds outside of their own families and ate their meals together. It was nice to have that option!

Each morning we were treated to a buffet style breakfast that included delicious options like eggs, bacon, sausage, hashbrowns, pancakes, waffles, crepes, cereal, fruit and pastries. Fresh coffee was available at Sundance all day along with water, juice, milk and other bottled beverages. My morning coffee is essential and I enjoyed having it along with so many other families who were ready to start the day.

Our lunches were the only meal not eaten at the family table every day and that is because we were usually not at Sundance over the lunch hour. Lunches were always boxed with a sandwich, fruit, chips and cookie and we chose our options at dinner each night. I enjoyed some of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had at family camp because everything is made fresh at Mount Snow.

Dinner was always served at the family table. Each table had a large dish of every meal option, and there were several options each day. There were many other fantastic meal options including:

  • Macaroni and cheese
  • Roast Pork
  • Stir fry
  • Roast Beef
  • Chicken
  • Pasta
  • Tacos
  • Hamburgers (including a vegetarian option)
  • Hot Dogs
  • Sausage
  • Chicken Pot Pie
  • Chicken Fingers
  • Pizza
  • Salmon
  • Multiple salads and sides
  • Delicious desserts like cheesecake, ice cream sundaes and lemon squares

The attentive serving staff was always close by and ready to refill empty bowls or assist diners as needed. It is a great mix of family dining and being served!

The week at family camp was a treat in terms of not having to cook or clean, but it was also really encouraged quality family time. We embraced the family table on our vacation and have kept the feeling alive at home. The Mount Snow Family Camp did exactly what a vacation should do for a family, it helped us relax and reconnect as a family, and it all started with the family table.
