Missouri Shoppers Keep Returning To This Impressive Meat Market To Stock Up In 2026

More than 100 varieties of sausage once filled the cases at one South St. Louis County butcher shop. That number alone makes my grocery list feel tiny.

A federal inspector also checks in daily, which is not something most corner markets can claim.

The story started in 1945 with a rolling meat market on wheels. Some sausage recipes from that founder are still in use today.

I actually love when a business keeps its oldest secrets working instead of retiring them.

Then there are the bacon-wrapped beef and cheddar bites with a very Missouri name. Add homemade St. Louis-style pizzas with Provel, plus freezer meals like pot roast in gravy.

I am not trying to rush anyone, but dinner planning suddenly sounds fun.

So how does one shop become a butcher counter, deli, cafe, and catering crew at once? And why does a trip there often turn into a cooler-filling mission?

Over 100 varieties of sausage. That was the count at Kenrick’s Meats & Catering back in 2021, and it explains a lot.

Plenty of shops treat sausage as a side act. Here, it feels closer to the headliner.

Brats, hot dogs, and specialty links get made in house, so the case reads like a menu of options.

The real treat is a little history lesson you can eat. Some sausages still follow original recipes from founder Herb Kenrick.

That includes landjaeger, a dried, cured, smoked sausage with deep German roots.

Landjaeger is a handy snack to know about. It travels well and needs no cooking, so it fits a lunch bag or road trip.

Think of it as jerky’s sturdy cousin in sausage form.

Picking just one flavor can feel like a test you didn’t study for. A smart move is grabbing two or three types and turning dinner into a sampler night.

Grill them side by side and let everyone vote.

Missouri summers practically demand brats on the grill. With this many choices, you can skip the same old pack every weekend.

Your cookout crowd will notice the upgrade.

Food & Wine Gave This St. Louis Butcher A National Shout-Out

National magazines don’t usually come knocking on a South County butcher’s door. In January 2021, Food & Wine named Kenrick’s one of the best butcher shops in the nation.

That’s a big nod for a shop on Weber Road.

It also calls itself St. Louis’ largest butcher shop, and the size backs that up. The goal is simple: the freshest meat and the highest grades available.

Steaks, roasts, pork, poultry, and seafood all share the spotlight.

Quality checks go beyond a quick glance. Kenrick’s operates with USDA status, which means a government inspector is on site every day.

That kind of oversight brings real peace of mind.

The staff behind the counter can handle custom cuts on request. They’ll even season your meat before you leave.

That’s a nice trick when you want flavor without extra prep at home.

A helpful tip: if you need something specific, call ahead. Some items, like meat packages, may need about a day of notice.

Planning a little gets you exactly what you want.

Missouri has plenty of meat counters. Few can wave a national award around like this one.

Ozark Grillers Might Be The Most Missouri Snack Ever Invented

Bacon on the outside. Seasoned beef and cheddar cheese tucked inside.

That’s the whole pitch for Ozark Grillers, and honestly, it’s enough.

These bite-sized nuggets are a house specialty. They hit the grill like tiny flavor bombs and disappear just as fast.

If you host game days, they’ll make you look like a backyard genius.

Then comes the pizza. Kenrick’s makes its own St. Louis-style pies with a Mozzarella-Provel cheese blend and fresh toppings.

Provel is that gooey, very local cheese that splits opinions and wins loyal fans.

The pizzas come frozen and oven ready. That makes them perfect for busy nights when nobody wants to cook. Keep one stashed, and Friday dinner is basically solved.

Pairing ideas come easy here. Grill some Ozark Grillers as an appetizer, then slide a pizza in the oven. It’s a full meal with almost zero effort.

Visitors from out of state might not know Provel yet. A frozen pie makes a fun introduction to a true St. Louis taste. Just warn them about the stretch factor.

Your Freezer Will Thank You For These Heat-n-Eat Dinners

Weeknights can get messy fast. Kenrick’s helps out with a lineup of Heat-n-Eat dinners prepared right on site and frozen for later.

The list reads like a family recipe box. There’s taco meat, sloppy joes, beef stew, chicken and dumplings, and chili.

Meatloaf with gravy and pot roast in gravy cover the cozy side of things.

Joe’s Ham & Beans gets its own spot, which is a fun nod to the shop’s owner, Joe the Butcher. Stuffed green peppers and stuffed cabbage rolls round out the comfort food crowd.

Cornbread squares make a smart add-on.

Sides come ready too. Mashed sweet potato casserole and baked potato with cheese casserole handle the rest of the plate.

Suddenly, a full dinner takes very little work. Here’s a practical idea. Stock up on a few meals at once and label your week.

Monday chili, Wednesday pot roast, Friday something fun.

These dishes also make thoughtful gifts. A new parent or a busy neighbor will appreciate dinner they can just heat. It’s a small kindness with big flavor.

Lunch Gets Sorted At The K Cafe Before You Even Shop

Shopping hungry is a classic mistake. Luckily, Kenrick’s has an answer right inside the building called the K Cafe.

The cafe opens daily at 10 a.m. It serves ready-to-eat meals, including gourmet sandwiches and hamburgers.

You can grab lunch and pick up tonight’s dinner on the same trip.

That combo is pretty clever. Eat first, think clearly, then shop the meat case without buying half the store.

Well, maybe you’ll still buy half the store. Can’t make it in person? The K Cafe also takes orders through Uber Eats. That’s handy for a lunch break when leaving the office isn’t an option.

The deli side backs everything up with homemade deli meats. Those sliced meats make the sandwiches feel extra special.

You can also buy them by weight to build your own lunches at home.

A quick tip for timing: the market itself opens earlier than the cafe. On Saturdays, doors open at 8 a.m., so early birds can shop first. Then circle back once the cafe starts serving.

Packed Bundles Make Stocking Up Almost Too Easy

Grocery math gets simpler when someone else builds the bundle. Kenrick’s offers meat packages designed for all kinds of households.

The Jumbo Family Pack works for big crews with big appetites. Dinner for 2 suits couples or small homes.

The BBQ Pack and Thrill the Grill Steak Pack speak directly to grill fans.

There’s also a Variety Pack for folks who like a little of everything. And a special 80th Anniversary Meat Package celebrates the shop’s milestone.

That’s eight decades of feeding Missouri families. Flexibility is a nice bonus. Most packages allow up to two substitutions.

So if someone in your house refuses pork chops, you can swap them out.

Plan ahead, though. Packages may need about 24 hours of notice so the team can prep fresh cuts. Ordering a day early saves you from a last-minute scramble.

A package is a smart way to fill the freezer in one stop. Split it into weekly portions once you get home. Future you will be grateful on a busy Tuesday.

Party Planning Gets A Whole Lot Easier With A Fleet Of Mobile Pits

It all began with a favor. In 1985, the Weinmann brothers were asked to cater an employee’s wedding, and Kenrick’s Catering was born.

Today the team calls itself Your Party People. They handle corporate events, private parties, wedding receptions, and holiday gatherings of any size, with options for pickup, delivery, or full-service events that include setup and cleanup.

The menu choices go wide. Buffets, BBQ, party foods, boxed meals, and breakfast or brunch spreads are all options.

Whole hog roasts bring serious drama to an outdoor event.

Themed menus add extra fun. Pick from Mexican Fiesta, Taste of Italy, Bayou Joe, International Sausages, or Southern Fried Chicken. Each one gives a party its own personality.

The coolest detail might be the hardware. Kenrick’s owns a fleet of more than two dozen mobile BBQ pits for grilling right on location.

Guests get to smell dinner cooking, which builds plenty of excitement.

Book early for busy seasons like the holidays or graduation time. Ask questions about menus and quantities when ordering. Clear details help your big day run smoothly.

Eight Decades Of Butcher History Started On Wheels

Long before Weber Road, Kenrick’s rolled through the streets. Herb Kenrick launched it in 1945 as a rolling meat market serving South St. Louis.

In 1975, Joe Weinmann bought the business. Known as Joe the Butcher, he took over a smaller shop on Gravois Road in Affton, Missouri.

His brother John joined in 1980. That same year, Kenrick’s moved to Weber Road. Catering arrived in 1985, and a wholesale division followed in 1992.

Growth just kept coming. The big leap happened in 2004. Kenrick’s Meats & Catering moved into its much larger home at 4324 Weber Rd, St. Louis, MO 63123.

That building holds today’s market, deli, and cafe.

Wholesale now supplies meat to more than 100 local restaurants. So you may have tasted Kenrick’s meat without realizing it.

That’s a fun thought next time you eat out around town.

The shop remains family-owned and a proud union employer with Meat Cutters Local 88. It also runs fundraising programs for groups like churches and Boy Scouts. Community ties run deep here.

Hunters And Seafood Fans Both Get A Seat At This Table

Fall in Missouri means plenty of hunters coming home with deer. Kenrick’s offers wild game processing, which saves a lot of backyard hassle.

Letting pros handle processing just makes sense. You get your harvest back in usable cuts.

That freezer full of venison suddenly feels manageable.

Seafood lovers aren’t left out either. As of 2021, the market carried over 80 varieties of seafood.

That’s a surprising amount for a shop famous for brats.

The store has also carried local products over the years, including Ted Drewes. Supporting nearby makers keeps the shelves feeling true to St. Louis.

It’s a nice way to shop local without extra stops.

Hours make planning simple. Weekdays run 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Bring a cooler if you’re driving far.

That cooler advice matters more than you’d think. Between sausage, steaks, seafood, and frozen dinners, carts fill up quickly.

Consider it a friendly warning from someone who understands temptation.
