RIVIERA MAYA, Mexico (Day One) — Nice!

Every suite — not rooms but suites and oversized ones complete with kitchens! — overlook the ocean. Everyone has a butler to do their bidding… and it’s designed with multigenerational families in mind.

Welcome to the 144-suite Generations, a Karisma resort about 40 minutes from Cancun. Did I mention grandparents can get a one bedroom unit free this year with a two-bedroom unit for their family? Nice too!

Guests can also have a private meal on the ocean pier or in their suite

Another plus: You can leave the kids in the Eko kids’ club—or with some of the adults—and head next door to the adults-only larger Dorado resorts (got to love the expansive spa, including the Mayan treatments, complete with a Temazcal Mayan treatment, complete with sweat lodge).

Within the three resorts, there are 20 restaurants and 11 bars — five restaurants and two bars at Generations. Those at Generations can leave the kids and go over to the two El Dorado resorts for a spa or an adult experience (there is a smaller spa at Generations).

I love that the Kids’ club includes kids’ cooking lessons — sushi, pasta making, cookie making. But it starts at age four and babysitting for younger kids is pricey — $20 an hour!

“The kids club was super fun, especially the cooking,” reported Kailey Keller, now at a different Azul resort who ranks Generations as her favorite,  especially because of the swim  up suites with a pool  just outside.

Kids activities range from Spanish class to gardening, sand games to piñata making. These days, families don’t want to leave kids all day, but might want a little adult time — and some time to get the kids out of the sun.

For babies, the resort has Baby Beach Lounges, Pack & Play, pint-sized robes, strollers, bottle warmers and sterilizers, bath toys — everything you might need.

The suites are comfortable enough to hang out with a fridge stocked with drinks, plenty of room service and butlers to handle whatever you need. You can arrange to have everything from a crib to baby bath to changing table.

You don’t need reservations for dinner and as this resort is “gourmet inclusive” with an emphasis on food, you can take your pick of Mediterranean, Asian, international, Mexican, Italian… the only problem is the food is so good, it’s hard to resist eating too much! Drinking too!
