According to Pew Research Center, more than half of Americans consider their dogs just as important as the human members of their family. With man’s best friend being more appreciated than ever, many are looking for a way to celebrate as National Dog Day approaches on Aug. 26.

Named one of the top 10 Most Dog-Friendly Cities in America by WalletHub, Kansas City is the perfect destination for pet owners to celebrate their furry family members.

Guests and their pups can stay at the Crossroads Hotel in downtown Kansas City. The property is currently offering the Woof Package, which covers the $40 pet fee and includes an in-room dog bed and bowl, a plush toy and specialty dog treats. The package also includes one complimentary pass to Bar K, a unique hangout for dog owners which combines a bar, restaurant and a two-acre, fully-staffed dog park. For this year’s National Dog Day, Bar K will be serving up fresh dog treats, local Betty Rae’s ice cream and a DOGA session at sunset to celebrate attending pups.

Together, visitors and their four-legged friend can explore the city by playing fetch on the lawn of The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, a nationally recognized museum situated on 20 acres with dozens of outdoor installments and beautiful landscaping, or strolling around the grounds of the National WWI Museum and Memorial, which boasts Egyptian Revival architecture, a 217-foot Memorial Tower and several wall displays throughout the property. To spend some time in nature, stop by Loose Park, complete with wide open green spaces, ponds and gardens; it’s the ideal place for pets and parents to bond and get some exercise.

To refuel after exploring the park, pet owners can take a 10-minute walk to locally founded Three Dog Bakery, where highly skilled pastry chefs bake small batch, delicious and nutritious dog treats from scratch. Three Dog Bakery is located on the Country Club Plaza, where leashed pets are welcome on restaurant patios and in most retail shops. For more dog-friendly patios, pet parents can head downtown to Casual Animal Brewing Co. or KC Wineworks, where delicious beverages and relaxation are offered to humans and pups alike.
