The Smithsonian American Art Museum’s modern and contemporary galleries have reopened with a new installation of its collection that examines the explosion of possibility in American art from the 1940s through today.
The first reinterpretation of the museum’s holdings since 2006, the selected works now on view highlight the multifaceted and ever-evolving narratives, perspectives, and artistic practices that exist in the United States.
