Weather permitting (there’s a new snowstorm bearing down on the Northeast today), I’m heading off to Colorado for a two-week swing that will take me to four family-friendly resorts–Snowmass (www.aspensnowmass.com ), Steamboat (www.steamboat.com ), Keystone (www.keystoneresort.com ) and Vail (www.vail.com ).
Along the way, we’re going to have a multigenerational reunion on snow spanning three generations, starting at Steamboat with a little time at Vista Verde Ranch (www.vistaverde.com ) and ending at Keystone in time for their Kidtopia festival on snow complete with giant snow fort. Should be fun! We’ve been doing these February trips for some years now — Ethan Sitzman is now 8 years old and skis like a pro. To read about his first time on skis, go here .
Sure it’s a lot of work gathering the gang–figuring out where to stay, what we’ll do (ski school? snow shoeing for the non skiers? eat dinner in or out?) But it’s worth the trouble–if only to see cousins who live across the country giggle together and to show off on the ski slopes just as the Olympians’ test their mettle in Vancouver.
I hope in the process we’re growing the next generation of snow sports lovers in our family. I know at the very least we’re going to create some family memories.
